OUR STORY

A guesthouse built on hospitality, not hurry

Suan Mali began as a family home and grew into a quiet refuge for travellers. We are still the same — warm, unhurried and glad you found us.

HOW WE BEGAN

From a quiet lane to a trusted rest stop

Suan Mali — which means jasmine garden in Thai — opened in 2009 on a leafy stretch of Mahidol Road, close enough to the airport runway that guests could hear aircraft in the morning and feel settled enough to sleep through the sound by evening.

The founder, Khun Siriporn, had worked at a Bangkok transit hotel for a decade before returning to Chiang Mai to care for her parents. She noticed that travellers passing through the city's quieter airport had fewer options than those at bigger hubs — so she converted the family compound into a small, well-considered guesthouse for layover and transit guests.

Over the years, the rooms have been updated, the garden has grown and the staff has expanded — but the intention remains the same: give tired travellers a clean, calm place to recover before their next journey.

Founded 2009

Started as a small family guesthouse and developed steadily into a recognised transit property.

Family-run

Still managed by the founding family, with a small team who share the same care for detail.

Consistently well-rated

Guest satisfaction has remained high across all booking channels for more than ten years.

OUR MISSION

To make every layover feel like a considered pause, not a loss of time

We believe that the hours between flights should feel like a small gift — a chance to shower, rest, eat something warm and arrive at the next gate feeling like yourself again. Everything at Suan Mali is arranged with that thought in mind.

THE PEOPLE HERE

HOW WE WORK

Standards we hold across every stay

Thorough room preparation

Every room is cleaned, aired and checked by two members of staff before each new guest arrives. Fresh linen, clean surfaces, no shortcuts.

Guest privacy respected

We do not share guest details with third parties. Booking records are held securely and discarded once a stay has ended, in line with Thai personal data protection law.

Reliable transport

Our shuttle vehicle is serviced regularly and driven by a licenced driver. We track flight status to adjust pick-up times for delays without guests needing to call ahead.

Dependable connectivity

Fibre broadband throughout the property with a dedicated guest network, separate from staff devices. Sufficient for video calls, work and streaming.

Safety compliant

Fire exits, smoke detectors and extinguishers maintained to current Thai safety regulations. Staff trained in basic first response.

Mindful of our surroundings

Refillable amenity dispensers, minimal single-use plastic, and a garden fed by collected rainwater. Small steps kept consistently.

A NOTE ON WHAT WE DO

Transit accommodation near Chiang Mai Airport

Suan Mali sits on Mahidol Road in the Pa Daet district, a short drive from Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX). The property focuses entirely on transit and layover guests — those who need a few hours to rest between connections, a full night before an early departure, or a spacious stay during a longer wait.

The three room types cover the range of travel situations that bring guests through Chiang Mai: a daytime room for short stops, an overnight double with a morning shuttle for those arriving late and leaving the next day, and a suite for families or small groups with extended layovers who need space to spread out and a meal without going out.

We do not offer conference facilities, tour packages or general tourist services. What we offer is straightforward: clean rooms, a reliable shuttle, a warm meal at odd hours, and a staff who understand that your priority is making the next flight without feeling worn down. Chiang Mai is a city worth visiting properly — and for guests who are passing through, we try to make the brief stop a good one too.
